VETS HEAVY COMBAT LETTERS 8TH CAVALRY 1ST CAV DIVISION
FRONT LINE COMBAT AND DEVASTATION PENNED LETTERS!
Great find, part of a grouping from a Battle of the Bulge Veteran! The gist of this is that I bought a large estate of a guy from the 4th Armored Division, a Lieutenant, Ronald Bell, and he WAS at the battle of the Bulge, WAS wounded in that action and WAS a vet that service up to the Korean conflict, where he got yet another battlefield Bronze Star! He was with the 51st Armored Infantry in WWII and the 8th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division in Korea. He even had an ORIGINAL GENERAL MCAULIFFE SIGNED NUTS! CHRISTMAS CARD TO THE 101ST AIRBORNE!

I chose these letters to keep because they are so very passionate and many, in fact most of them discuss combat. Others discuss his mission in fighting the war. Lastly they always seem to ask for food!

There are a lot of emotions here and the feeling of being in the front lines of a combat unit. These are NOT drab literature, but stirring topics. Some have art drawings on them that he did, while others are written on area map segments that he cut up in the field as stationary!

He lists places, casualties, missions and the fact that there were ONLY TWO OFFICERS LEFT ALIVE IN THE COMPANY!

There are 20 envelopes and 19 letters in total. One has two photos of the good LT up in the front line paying his men, helmet in lap as a cash bucket, white LT bard painted on it and all!

In those photos he has on the white reversible combat field snow parka on, and the pile field cap. He listed in one letter how he carried $66,000 in cash!

These letters cover the very difficult period of November 1950 to January 1951 period when the 1st Cavalry was overrun and lost their entire 3rd Battalion in combat! Over 1,500 men lost, wiped out! He was in 1st Bn.

This vet won 3 Bronze Stars, one for gallantry under fire in Korea with Company A, 8th Cavalry Regiment. He INSPIRED AN ATTACK AGAINST THE ENEMY AT KUMYANGJANG-NI! Forever guaranteed as originals!

This is an AWESOME lot of superbly documented items!
